BRIDLE + BREASTPLATE FITTING AND CARE
How to Fit Your Saddle Co Bridle
A correctly fitted bridle ensures comfort, communication, and performance. Each piece should sit securely without causing pressure or restriction.
1. Headpiece (Crownpiece)
Position the headpiece gently behind the ears.
- Should sit comfortably without pressing into the ears
- Allow space to move ears freely
- No pinching or tightness
2. Browband
Slide the browband into place across the forehead.
- Should lie flat, without pulling the headpiece forward
- Allow approximately 1–2 fingers space on either side
- Too tight = pressure behind the ears
3. Cheekpieces & Bit Position
Attach the bit and adjust the cheekpieces evenly.
- Bit should create 1–2 small wrinkles at the corners of the mouth
- Even on both sides
- Avoid too high (tight) or too low (loose knocking)
4. Noseband
Fasten the noseband according to style.
- General rule: allow two fingers space under the noseband
- Should sit below the cheekbone, not on soft cartilage
- Secure, but never restrictive
5. Throatlatch
Fasten the throatlatch under the jaw.
- Allow 3–4 fingers space
- Should prevent the bridle from slipping over the head
- Never tight
6. Reins
Attach reins securely to the bit.
- Ensure clips/buckles are fastened correctly
- Even length on both sides
Final Check
Before riding, ensure:
- Bridle sits evenly and symmetrically
- No rubbing, pinching, or pressure points
- Horse is relaxed and comfortable in the contact
The Saddle Co Standard
Every detail is designed to prioritise your horse’s comfort while maintaining a refined, polished look — because true performance starts with correct fit.

How to Fit the Balance Breastplate:
Position the collar at the base of the horse’s neck.
It should sit comfortably, above shoulder bone — not so high that it places pressure on the windpipe, and not so low that it drops onto the chest.
Adjust the wither and collar straps to hold the breastplate securely in place without restriction.
Thread your girth points through the loops.
For monoflap saddles, pass the loop under the first girth point and secure onto the second.
At the base of the collar, allow approximately 4–5 fingers space between the horse’s chest and the breastplate for correct fit and comfort. The Balance Breastplate is designed to allow for freedom of movement and not designed to be restrictive.
